Home DIY Projects Using Shutters

Home DIY projects are a great way to save money and create something unique. When you recycle an old item by repurposing it, you’re also doing something to help the environment. Shutters are a very versatile way to create your own DIY project. You can buy them new or find some old ones at a salvage store, thrift store or garage sale. You may even be lucky enough to find some vintage shutters that have a beautiful distressed finish all ready and waiting for you. If not, you can always create your own.  You can find tutorials on distressing furniture at HGTV and the DIY Network. There are more ways to use shutters than their intended purpose or as a room screen. Here are some ideas on how you can repurpose shutters.

I have a set of shutters that I bought at a garage sale about ten years ago. I’ve painted them several times over the years to change with my decor. Since I moved into this house, they’ve been sitting in my garage. They’re not alone, though; there are a lot of things ready to become projects in my garage. Writing this post has given me some great ideas!

Have you done any home DIY projects using shutters? Which one of these ideas do you like the best or think that you’ll try?

Wow, so many creative uses. I kind of like the one that seems to have a cord board (?) in the middle. Great set of photos!

Hi Sarah! I like that one, too. It makes a great message center or bulletin board. And thank you; glad you like the pics!

Wow! All of these ideas are fantastic – I cannot pick a favorite, so I must make them all…and find a fixer-upper house that I furnish them in. Thanks for including the organizational shutter ideas – this will be my first to create 🙂

Love this! I have three vintage shutters waiting for me in the garage because I have been trying to figure out how to use them. I see a trip to the garage in my near future!
