Apartment Decorating Ideas
1 If your apartment lacks an actual entryway, create your own with a bookcase. Take out the top shelves and install hooks for coats. Add extra hooks on the sides. Place baskets or bins in the bottom for storage. Dress it up by adding wallpaper to the back or painting it.
2 You can find ways to make an apartment your own without making permanent changes. If you have an unattractive pedestal sink that exposes the equally unattractive plumbing, hide it all with a skirt. Attach the skirt using adhesive-backed hook-and-loop tape. Use the space below to keep storage containers and baskets out of sight.
3 A wall of drapery adds elegance to a room. And it’s not permanent. Hang several sets of drapes behind your bed to give it style and add a touch of luxury. It’s also a great way to balance out a wall with an oddly placed or sized window.
4 Purses, shoes, jewelry, etc. are often works of art. So why not display them out in the open? This will free up some of your storage space while providing you with decorative accessories.
5 Sometimes you have to think out of the box when it comes to arranging furniture in apartments. Make the most of a long narrow room. Try floating the sofa in the middle of the room and putting the TV on the wall facing it. Behind the sofa you can place a console or buffet and use that side of the room for an office or dining room.
6 To maximize the space in a rental, mount the TV on the wall and place a storage console below it. This will anchor the TV and can be used as serving surface when entertaining. Flank the TV with additional storage pieces or display cabinets. Then just add some decorative accessories.
7 Turn your electric stovetop into counter space when you’re not using it by covering it with this wooden stovetop cover. It expands the work area in a small kitchen. Just make sure you don’t turn on the stove while the topper is in place.
Just because you’re limited to what you’re allowed to do in an apartment, doesn’t mean you can’t make it your own. These creative apartment decorating ideas will help you to turn your apartment into a home.
