Coastal Design: 14 Rooms That Bring You Closer To the Ocean

Nothing says “relax” in every sense of the word like a beach. Even five minutes standing in the sand, looking out onto that vast sea and hearing the waves crashing in on each other makes me feel like I’m on vacation. For a moment, the world can disappear. I have long dreamt of having a beach house and imagined how I would decorate it. I love the openness and airiness of coastal design in a color palette of whites, neutrals and blues ─ all crisp, clean and beautiful. However, the cool thing about coastal design is that it can come in a variety of flavors. There is the cute beach cottage, the sleek contemporary pad, the Mediterranean escape, or even a traditional home by the sea. The main concept that flows through each of these styles with a coastal slant is the idea of “bringing the outdoors in” ─ in this case, feeling the spirit of the coast even when you are inside the home. Or, feeling it even if the sea is many miles away. Here are 14 fabulous coastal rooms for inspiration!

All of the following spaces capture the essence of the ocean and bring it indoors in their own unique way.

I can just image how much work it takes to dust that bathroom. I am tired just looking at it. Great photos and ideas.

I know what you mean, Sabrina! Looks great in the photo, but I wouldn’t want to dust it. Thank you; glad you like the photos and tips. 🙂

I love the chairs in #8. Do you show where you found them? I also love the 2 chairs together on one side of the coffee table and a sofa at a right angle to the chairs.

Wish I could take credit for that fabulous room, Jacqueline; however, it was designed by Jack Fhillips of Palm Beach. There was no information listed for the items in the room, but you can see more photos at http://jfhillipsdesign.com/portfolio.php?y=banyan. There are different angles of the chairs, so it may help you in your search for something similar. 🙂
