Do you love the casual, relaxed feel of coastal style design? It’s one of my favorites. That’s one of the reasons I love to check out what’s happening at Coastal Living. While there, I found this amazing home tour with the most inviting blue rooms. I just had to share it with you. The interior design for this fabulous St. John’s Island, Florida vacation retreat all began with a blue flower print fabric for the living room pillows. From there the palette was decided and the rest of the design fell into place in the hands of talented interior decorator Phoebe Howard. The photographer for the project was Erica George Dines and the stylist Heather Chadduck.
Blue Rooms: A Florida Vacation Home
In the living room, you can see the floral fabric that inspired the home’s blue color palette. The blue curtains frame the large window that offers a wonderful view of the pool. The neutral colors of the couch and natural fiber rug keep the various shades of blue from overpowering the room.
The banquette in the dining room offers plenty of seating for family members and guests. For easy care, it’s covered in a stain resistant fabric.
The family room is conveniently located next to the kitchen. A colorful blue sectional sofa allows the family to relax in comfort and style. TIP: A large square ottoman is a great multi-purpose piece of furniture. It works for propping up your feet and as additional seating. It also acts as a coffee table when topped with a tray.
The artwork on the wall helps bring together the color scheme of blue and green in the family room. TIP: You can create similar artwork on a budget by framing pieces of fabric you like.
Wicker chairs give the breakfast room a casual, laid-back feeling. A great place to enjoy a bite to eat before jumping back into the pool or for informal meals. TIP: Covering cushions in an outdoor fabric makes them easy to clean and helps them stand-up against wet swimsuits.
For a cohesive look, the blue was carried into the master bedroom. To tone the color down a bit and make it more restful, a touch of gray was added to the paint color. A seating area was included in the master bedroom to create an intimate retreat where the homeowners could grab some quiet time to themselves.
Calming shades of white and a deeper blue create balance in one of the home’s bedrooms.
Blue table accents bring the colors outdoors to the patio area. TIP: Choosing weather resistant outdoor furniture is important for a vacation home. All this set needs is a quick rinse off with the hose and it’s good as new.
