Finding storage opportunities in small spaces can sometimes seem tricky. It’s not really the size of the space that makes a difference, though. It’s how you use the it. Today I have seven more small space storage ideas that will help you to make the most of the space you have and keep you organized.
Small Space Storage Ideas
1 I’ve said this one before, but it bears repeating. In small spaces, think vertically for storage. Most rooms have lots of unused vertical space that you can take advantage of for storage. Floor-to-ceiling bookcases or shelving will give you plenty of much needed space-saving storage. For easy access to the items stored on top, keep a step stool handy.
2 Under the bed is another excellent storage space. Use rolling plastic bins or baskets to store all kinds of items. If you lack a linen closet, this is great way to store bed linens and towels.
3 Utilize every square inch of closet space by installing closet organizers. Take them all the way to the ceiling to make use of the vertical space available. Make use of the corners and depth, too. And don’t forget the step stool!
4 Use the backs of closet, cabinet and room doors to hang organizers and narrow shelving. You’d be surprised at how much additional storage space you can acquire this way. There are a variety of sizes and styles of door organizers available at home stores.
5 Hanging tiered baskets can be used to sort toys, mail, accessories, and all sorts of different things. And they don’t take up any floor space.
6 Cover storage boxes with fabric so they’re attractive enough to be seen. You can then casually stack them in a corner or display them on open shelves. Here’s a tutorial for creating the fabric covered boxes shown in the photo.
7 The space next to the washing machine and dryer is often overlooked. Use it to hang a broom and dust pan for quick clean-ups or store the ironing board and iron. My mom used to keep a step stool there, so it was handy when she needed it. You can also add shelves above or on the sides for even more storage.
Small spaces can be functional, organized and offer plenty of storage, if you know a few tricks on how to use the space. I hope you find these small space storage ideas helpful. Do you have a favorite?
