One of the most fun parts of preparing for your baby’s arrival is decorating the nursery. For some parents, they opt for the element of surprise on the day of birth, not knowing whether they are welcoming a baby girl or baby boy. So it’s important to make sure the nursery is comfortable for whoever will call the space home. There are plenty of ways to go about creating a gender neutral nursery that still inject tons of personality into the space. I’ve found some great ideas for a multitude of styles and colors, from modern to glamorous and everything in between.
Gender Neutral Nursery Ideas
Nothing says glamour like draped fabric going up the ceiling. I love the striped walls, chevron rug, and that very cool chandelier. Because the palette is a mixture of creams and soft grays, it is both elegant and gender neutral.
Green with natural, neutral tones are a great option for a gender neutral nursery. The lime green in this space is so fresh and clean and the texture on the walls and ceiling adds depth without overcomplicating the space.
Yellow and gray are a sweet, elegant combination that is perfect for a gender neural nursery. Gray and white polka dots on the walls add some whimsy and the chandelier is a nice touch of sophistication that, if the baby turns out to be a boy, can easily be changed out when the he gets a little older.
A gray palette is made fun with whimsical, artistic touches that could be comfortable for a boy or girl. The modern European appeal of this space makes the elements that may usually be for a boy (the bits of blue, for example) break the norms and become friendly to either gender.
This nursery is so fresh and pretty without screaming either boy or girl. It’s a pleasant space with wonderful use of texture and pattern that will be easy to transition as the baby gets older.
Dark gray walls are an unusual choice for a nursery, but this one goes to show you that great design can break conventions. I love everything about this space, from the colorful abstract art above the crib to the whimsical patterns of the bedding and the blue rug. Such a cool, hip space.
This nursery is completely neutral without being anywhere near boring. It’s chic and whimsical with magical touches like the “floating” balloon and muted color mobile. Most babies love animals, so they’re a great theme for a neutral nursery.

Simple is sweet in this nursery. The soft blue and yellow palette is cheery and fitting for whoever ends up calling it their own.
This nursery is elegant in a mature way, letting a few accessories and the crib identify it as the baby’s room. This approach makes it very easy to transition the baby through the ages as it grows up without having to change anything major.
Hollywood glamour graces this chic nursery in art deco elements, metallic surfaces, and bold black and white stripes. It reminds me of Gatsby’s house in the recent The Great Gatsby movie. The baby who lives here is sure to grow up to be one very stylish kid.
