If you love Halloween, you know that decorating your house can be just as much fun as putting together a costume. But what can you do if the traditional orange and purple aren’t your style? Try decorating in classic black and white! It goes with almost every style and color. The creative talents at Better Homes and Gardens put together a fun selection of black and white Halloween decor. Here are 12 of my favorites.
Halloween Decorating Ideas in Black and White
A white couch pillow with black trim and a simple Halloween message is the perfect accent. Trick or Treat Pillow Tutorial and free “trick or treat” stencil can be found here.
Cast an eerie light on the festivities with this easy-to-make bat sconce. Bat Sconce Tutorial here.
Make a spooky family tree just for Halloween. Family Tree Tutorial and pattern download here.
Create the illusion of bats flying in the air by painting pumpkins white and stenciling on black bats. Then suspend the pumpkins from garden hooks. I think it would be cool if you painted the bats in glow-in-the-dark paint. Download the bat stencil here.
Flowers in a vase aren’t scary. But how about skulls in a vase? Embellish the outside of a tall glass vase with decorative decals. Then arrange miniature skulls inside.
Paint an old suitcase black and adhere traveling stickers from creepy destinations. You can make them by hand or on your computer.
Black candles, a faux raven, tarnished silver accessories, and a skull under a glass cloche give this mantel it’s Halloween charm. Interesting note, the cobwebs were made from stretched out white nylon stockings. Whether you use stockings or packaged fake spider webbing, the key to the best cobwebs is in the stretching. Keep pulling on it until it each strand is separated and visible.
Halloween dinners can be elegant. Turn inexpensive cloth napkins into bone-chilling table linens with the help of iron-on clipart. Napkin Tutorial here.
Give your table style by making Halloween napkin rings out of chandelier cutouts and black silk ribbon. You can find all different kinds of fun cutouts you can use for this holiday at your local crafts store.
Silhouettes are a wonderful way to decorate for Halloween. Get ready for a game of cat-and-mouse with these fun cardstock cutouts. Find the patterns for this project here.
Add a haunting silhouette to a white pumpkin or one that you’ve painted white. Adorn it with spooky phrases written with a magic marker. Silhouette Pumpkin Tutorial and silhouette pattern download here.
Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn, and caldron bubble. It appears that this creepy witch is hard at work in your house. Witch Window Silhouette and pattern download here.
Black and white is such a classic color scheme. Now you have some more fun ways to use it in your Halloween decor. Out of these ideas, which one do you think you’d like to try this year?
