Everything Gold is New Again: Decorating with Gold Accents

There is no denying it: gold has made a comeback. This luxurious metallic has been around in design for ages. It has a classic appeal that never goes completely out of style, but it has gone in and out as a design trend. You have probably noticed it has been popping up a lot more lately because of the popularity of metallic finishes. Gold has a very glamorous appeal. It can easily verge on tacky if not used correctly, but when it is done in a tasteful manner it can bring a lot of chic style to a space. Here are 10 rooms that got it right when decorating with gold accents.

6 Soft blues and neutrals are given depth by the addition of some gold accents. The mirror creates a nice focal point, balanced by the lamps that flank it on either side and the coffee table in the middle.

I love the gold against blue – feels very classy. I think gold has a tendency to feel a bit 1970’s… but if you keep it modern, it looks great!

Gold has come full circle and is trendy again, Seana. To keep it modern and from screaming 70’s, use gold with a matte finish. 🙂

Done well, gold is very sophisticated and classy. It definitely needs a deft hand though. I had gold in our former master bath and I never got tired of it, but since I’ve btdt, I don’t think I would choose it again, at least not in the near future.

(I really like the grasscloth wall and the fireplace!)

Well stated, Doreen. To pull it off, it definitely needs a “deft hand”. You don’t want to overdo it. And I agree, that grasscloth is beautiful. 🙂

I wasn’t sure I was ready for it again, Marti. But now that I’ve seen how it’s being done, I’m loving it too! 🙂
